Colleen Sords is a mixed-media artist and Michigan native, recently returned to Metro Detroit after a decade based in San Francisco, California.

Metamorphosis, her current body of work, draws visually from the rugged, sun-worn landscapes of West Coast hiking trails. Beneath that surface runs a more personal terrain: the transition into motherhood and the postpartum journey. The work invites viewers into a contemplative space where fragility and strength coexist.

Her latest collection, Les Petites Reliques, is a series of small-scale works set in vintage frames. At its center is a contradiction: her connection to the divine feminine through motherhood has unexpectedly given rise to what she considers her most masculine work to date.

Colleen’s work is held in private collections nationally. She invites people to see weathering as revelation, not decay. The parts of us that feel worn and scarred aren’t signs of loss, but the very things that make us whole.
